Paralimni is a town situated in the South East of Cyprus, a little way inland, within the Famagusta District. Since 1974, this small town has become the temporary administrative center of the district.
The town has a friendly utilitarian charm, an attractive town square with coffee shops and restaurants, and a handful of handicraft shops worth of anybody’s time. In the evening things are more vigorous and Paralimni offers a refreshing alternative for anyone who is tired of the city hustle. Paralimni is also famous for its picturesque windmills.
The twin-aisled vaulted church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary is worth visiting. It is decorated with unusual 18th century porcelain plates. The church, parts of which belong to the 13th century, houses a small ecclesiastical museum.
Things to do:
1. Water sports
Water are a big part of vacations in Paralimni along with beach-chill time. Scuba diving is the biggest attraction here as the weather for it is ideal and visibility is generally great, around 30-40 meters of clarity.
Besides scuba diving, parasailing, boating, waterskiing and jetskiing are also very popular. Try the CC Waterfun Center for rentals and excursions.
2. Off road 4 x 4 safaris
These safaris from Paralimni to the Troodos Mountains are an absolute must. The trip offers an absolutely stunning scenery in the heart of the Troodos where it would be difficult to reach on foot. The stop offs in the villages for wine tasting, shopping and monasteries visit are possible.
