Nature - Monasteries - History - Museums - Churches

Larnaca is situated on the east coast of Cyprus It has a population of 72,000 and is the island's second commercial port and an important tourist resort. The international airport of Larnaka is also situated here.

Larnaca, with its the palm-lined waterfront promenade, ancient fort and historic quarter offers a distinct antique flavour to its visitors. Today the city is a relaxed place well-loved for its easy going attitude and friendly people.

Hotels and resort-complexes are springing up rapidly on the outskirts of the Larnaca . The nearby beaches aren’t the best that Cyprus has to offer, but they improve markedly along the coast; making Larnaca a good base for exploring the island. Larnaca’s nightlife is quite vibrant and the town centre has good collection of bars, cafes and tavernas.

Things to do:

1. Hala Sultan Tekke

Larnaca’s main tourist attraction is the the nearby mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke, which draws pilgrims from across the Moslem world. The mosque is located next to a salt-lake southwest of the city, where pink flamingos are found in abundance.

2. Diving at Zenobia Wreck

Scuba divers should absolutely go for a dive at Zenobia, a passenger ferry which sank in 1980 and is now rated as one of the world’s top ten wrecks. Zenobia is now lying on its side at a depth of 16 to 42 meters, I mile off Larnaca's fishing harbor.

3. Fishing

Larnaka fishing harbor is an excellent and convenient place for those who love fishing.

4. Larnaca Fort

Larnaca Fort is situated along the beach, near Ankara Street and is impossible to be missed. It was built in 1625 and originally served as a prison. Today the castle houses an impressive archaeological museum, built like a labyrinth. The Fort is also used as the Larnaca Municipal Cultural Centre.

5. Boat Trips

Spend a day out fishing, visit hidden beaches, admire sunset, have lunch or a party on board!
